Soulsville has always been about community. Community is a place but also a feeling. Community is a set of relationships among people. Members of a community have a sense of trust, belonging, safety, and caring for each other. We each have a role to play within our community.
The Negro Motorist Green Book was the Bible of Black travel during Jim Crow. It was created as a guide to the Black community about places that were safe and welcoming. For Night Train, we decided to offer a 21st Century take on the Green Book. You will find a listing of locations that champion the tenants of Stax Records: diversity, minority and women business ownership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. This list will grow annually, and we invite you to submit additions each January. For 2023, we present our Soul Green Book.
