Stax Records alumni salute founder Jim Stewart during emotional museum event
On July 25, 2018, Stax Records founder Jim Stewart made his first-ever public appearance at the Stax Museum for a ceremony in which he donated his prized fiddle to our permanent collection. It was the fiddle he used to, among other things, devise the string arrangements for Carla Thomas’ smash hit “Gee Whiz” in 1960. A who’s who of Stax Records artists and employees turned out for the event, during which Mr. Stewart explained may of the origins of Stax Records.
