Ain’t I Clean? Lansky Bros. Exhibit Opening Reception

Celebrate the opening of AIN’T I CLEAN: Lansky Bros. & the Look of Memphis Music, a new exhibit exploring the connection between fashion, music, and the artists who helped shape the Memphis Sound.

For Stax artist Rufus Thomas, style was part of the show. Dressed in his signature Lansky Bros. outfits, he would open his jacket and ask the audience, “Ain’t I clean?” The crowd knew just how to respond: “Lansky Bros. on Beale Street!”

Founded on Beale Street in 1946, Lansky Bros. became a go-to destination for musicians looking to make a statement, outfitting artists including Isaac Hayes, David Porter, B.B. King, Al Green, Elvis Presley, and more. From sharp stage suits to the bold looks of the 1960s and ’70s, Lansky Bros. helped define the style of artists whose music reached audiences around the world.

Join us for a free opening reception celebrating the Memphis institution that helped give the city’s music scene a look as distinctive as its sound.

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Lansky Bros. pieces.

Admission is free and open to the public. Please RSVP at this link.
