On view now at the Stax Museum: Blues Power! Celebrating the Legacy of Albert King — a limited-time photo exhibit honoring one of the most influential voices in blues history.
About the Exhibit
The exhibit showcases rare photographs and memorabilia that highlight Albert King’s extraordinary career and lasting impact on American music.
Born in Mississippi in 1923, Albert King became one of the most influential figures in blues history. A member of the legendary “Three Kings” of blues guitar alongside B.B. King and Freddie King, Albert developed a style all his own. Playing a left-handed guitar strung upside down, he created a powerful, expressive sound that inspired generations of musicians across blues, soul, rock, and R&B.
After signing with Stax Records in 1967, King helped bridge the worlds of blues and soul. His landmark album Born Under a Bad Sign became one of the most influential blues recordings ever made. Throughout his career, King remained a beloved performer and ambassador for the blues, leaving behind a musical legacy that continues to inspire artists and audiences around the world.
